Online Therapy

Specialized therapy should not depend on living within driving distance of the right therapist. I provide secure online psychotherapy to adults and couples located throughout South Dakota and New York, where I am licensed to practice.

Online Therapy in South Dakota and New York

Online Therapy makes it possible to work with me from your home or another private setting while receiving the same individualized, specialized care I provide in my Sioux Falls office.

For many people, online therapy is no longer an alternative to therapy—it is simply the way they prefer to meet. A secure video session allows us to do much of the same therapeutic work we would do together in my office without the time and geographic limitations of traveling to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This can be especially valuable when you are seeking specialized treatment that may not be readily available in your own community.

Why Choose Online Therapy?

Access to Specialized Care

Where you live can limit the clinicians and specialties available to you. Telehealth allows you to seek a therapist based on expertise and fit rather than proximity alone. This can be particularly important in sex therapy and trauma treatment, where finding a clinician with advanced training and experience treating a specific concern may otherwise require significant travel—or may not be possible locally at all.

Greater Flexibility

Removing travel time can make consistent therapy easier to integrate into an already full life. Telehealth may be especially useful for people who live outside Sioux Falls, travel within their state, have demanding professional or family schedules, or simply prefer the convenience of meeting remotely.

Privacy and Familiarity

Some people find it easier to begin difficult conversations from a familiar environment. Sexuality, trauma, relationships, and the body can be deeply personal subjects, and meeting from a private space of your choosing may make therapy feel more accessible. Telehealth can also offer additional privacy for people who live in smaller communities and prefer not to receive specialized mental health services locally.

Continuity of Care

Telehealth can also make it easier to maintain continuity when circumstances change. A busy week, temporary travel within a state where I am authorized to practice, or difficulty getting to the office does not necessarily have to interrupt treatment.

Is Telehealth Different from In-Person Therapy?

The setting is different, but the therapeutic work does not need to become less personal. My approach remains relational, individualized, and engaged whether we are sitting in the same room or meeting through a screen. We can explore difficult experiences, relationships, sexuality, trauma, patterns of thought and emotion, and the ways psychological experiences are expressed through the body. For some clinical needs or circumstances, in-person treatment may be preferable. We can discuss this together as part of determining the most appropriate format for your care.

Preparing for a Telehealth Session

Telehealth works best when you have a private, comfortable space where you can speak freely and are unlikely to be interrupted. You will need a reliable internet connection and a device with video and audio capability. Because psychotherapy occurs in the state where you are physically located at the time of the session, I may ask you to confirm your location when we meet. You must be located in a jurisdiction where I am licensed or otherwise legally authorized to practice at the time of your appointment.

Telehealth sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, and we will review informed consent, privacy, emergency procedures, and other considerations specific to telehealth as part of beginning treatment.

Telehealth in South Dakota and New York

I currently provide telehealth psychotherapy to clients physically located in South Dakota and New York.

South Dakota has also enacted the Counseling Compact, an interstate agreement designed to increase professional counselor mobility and access to care across participating states. South Dakota is not yet operational within the Compact. As implementation continues and I become authorized to practice in additional jurisdictions, telehealth availability may expand. Current availability on this website will reflect the jurisdictions in which I am authorized to provide care.
