Vaginismus Psychoeducational Support and Psychotherapy Group

Women with vaginismus almost always feel alone and like they are the only person experiencing the devastating and painful impact of having vaginismus. Most women with vaginismus feel shame and fear about seeking help for their condition and often feel there is no hope for recovery.

The good news is that vaginismus is nearly 100% treatable, and women with vaginismus are not alone. This group will provide psychoeducation in a supportive space to understand, share experiences, and celebrate new accomplishments.


Group Therapist: Kimberly Keiser

Group Participants: Females over 18 years of age

Group Format: This will be a closed group consisting of 8-10 group members. New members will be added to the group on a quarterly basis. The core psychoeducational materials will be taught in three-month intervals. Current members can re-enroll in the group ongoing as desired or clinically recommended. The goals of the group are psychoeducational and to support women to manage and overcome the symptoms of vaginismus while fostering sex positivity and sexual health. The therapeutic factors include universality, imparting information, installation of hope, and catharsis.

Group members will explore:

  • Fundamental principles and practices of mindfulness and how this translates into being present with your body in the treatment of vaginismus and sexual arousal and response

  • Your sexual history and sources of sex education or lack of

  • Sex positive education

  • Female sexual anatomy, physiology, and response

  • Female sexual desire and pleasure

  • A general overview of post-traumatic stress and complex PTSD and how or if this applies to your development of vaginismus

  • An integrated approach to treating vaginismus

  • Techniques for being mindful during sexual arousal and response

  • Integrating self-pleasuring to overcome barriers to penetration

  • Working dilators to integrate sexual pleasure and penetration

While all exercises will be given as homework to be done at home between sessions, experiencing vaginismus does not have to be isolating. This environment will create connections with other women who are on a similar journey.
