Introducing Low-Cost Mental Health & Sex Therapy Sessions for South Dakotans

Are you looking for low-cost mental health services or low-cost sex therapy?

We know how difficult it can be to find quality care at an affordable cost. We also know how important it is. (We have the stats below.)

That’s why we’re pleased to offer our Internship Program at Kimberly Keiser & Associates, which allows us to provide therapy sessions on a sliding scale for those without health insurance or with limited financial means and train new therapists.

Why Are Affordable Mental Health Services Important?

Mental health is worsening, both in South Dakota and across the country.

According to the 2022 State of Mental Health in America, nearly 20% of adults experienced a mental illness even before COVID-19. We know that anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts were on the rise in 2020.

But despite the pervasiveness of this mental health problem, not everyone is receiving the care they need. Not even close.

In fact, one out of every four adults with a mental illness report an unmet need for treatment. Often, that’s because they lack the finances, resources, or health insurance required for care.

South Dakota is not exempt from these issues. In 2020, South Dakota ranks #34 in the country — toward the bottom of the pack — in prevalence of mental illness and rate of access to care among adults, according to Mental Health America. This has gotten better, with South Dakota ranking #17 overall in the 2022 report, but we’re in the middle (#23) when it comes to access to care.

And as recently as 2020, 9% of South Dakotans — nearly one in 10 — were uninsured, according to Statista.

So, yes, low-cost therapy services are important. Without them, many South Dakotans and Americans in general simply cannot receive quality care for the mental health and sexual concerns they face.

What Is the Internship Program?

At Kimberly Keiser & Associates, we believe all people should be able to benefit from the life-changing impact of mental health counseling and sex therapy services.

We also believe in building and supporting the next generation of therapy providers.

That’s why we are proud to offer our Internship Program, which will not only allow those without health insurance or adequate financial means to receive therapy services, but also train new therapists at our practice.

Beginning in fall 2021, we opened the doors to the Internship Program to students pursuing their master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling or social work. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our dynamic, talented team, learn how to apply for the Internship Program.
